Poetical Lamps

4 one offs. The wooden frames have been individually handpainted, 2 of the 4 sides of each lamp have been letterptress printed with evening poems on structured half transparent papers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Asiatic Lanterns

Following the construction of traditional lanterns known from many regions in Asia these objects are made up of from 3 to 6 plates. The texts printed on the plates are thoughts from philosophers like Lao Tse and from the Bible. The text plates are sewn together with special ornamental stitches and have tassels fixed to their edges. There are objects of single text plates as well. Papers for theses objects have been carefully selected and are more or less transparent to show their delicate patterns when seen against the light..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Old Age

Poem of Edmund Waller (1606-1687) in English (type: Baskerville) and German (type: Trump Deutsch), with Chinese Calligraphy (sign for old age). The prints are mounted on a twig of a willow tree.

Who’s afraid of the two sorts of ‘s’?

Play on historical type. 80 square cards show every character of the alphabeth and the matching pairs have to be found. All parts of the play are packed together in a specially made box of beech wood, containing also a list showing the correct pairs. The play helps to re-discover the  old gothic letters and learn which one is which.
